- "Harry's Swelling Solution was far too runny, but he had his mind on more important things."
- — Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
The Swelling Solution is a potion which causes whatever it touches to swell up in size. One of its known ingredients is puffer-fish eyes.
The trio decided to steal from Severus Snape's store cupboard in their second year for ingredients for the Polyjuice Potion, while they were making the Swelling Solution. Harry Potter set off one of the Dr. Filibuster's Fabulous Wet-Start, No-Heat Fireworks as a diversion so that Hermione Granger could get the ingredients; unfortunately the firework landed in Gregory Goyle's cauldron causing an explosion of solution that caused the limbs of nearby students to swell. They had to go to Professor Snape for the Deflating Draught.[1]
