- "...really excellent sugar quills, which you can suck in class and just look like you're thinking what to write next —"
- — Ron Weasley listing the merchandise found within Honeydukes[src]
Sugar Quills were delicate, spun-sugar sweets made to resemble real quills.[2][1] Sold at various sweet shops, they could be sucked on secretly by students in class, as doing so simply made one look as if they were thinking of what to write next.[2] They were also available in a Deluxe variety, which, according to Hermione Granger, lasted longer.[3]
History
When Phineas Nigellus Black was a student at Hogwarts, he was once seen eating Sugar Quill during a lecture by the Head Girl Dinah Hecat, and was admonished by her.[4]
Harry Potter guessed this as one of the possible passwords to unlock when attempting to get into Albus Dumbledore's office in his fourth year.[5]
