- "Harry squinted at it; at first, he thought it was a lamp of some kind, but then he saw that the light was coming from a stone basin rather like the Pensieve, which was set on top of a pedestal. Dumbledore approached the basin and Harry followed. Side by side, they looked down into it. The basin was full of an emerald liquid emitting that phosphorescent glow."
- — Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore viewing the Stone Basin in the Cave[src]
The Stone Basin[2] was a basin made of stone housed on the island within the Cave.[1]
Description[]
It contained the Emerald Potion Voldemort used to protect Slytherin's Locket. Either the basin or the potion within was enchanted in such a fashion that the contents could not be penetrated by hand, vanished, parted, scooped up, siphoned away, Transfigured, Charmed, or otherwise made to change its nature in any way, leaving drinking to be the only way to remove the potion inside.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the Stone Basin is a natural basin made of crystal rather than a manufactured one of stone, and it was more integral with the crystallised island. In LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7, it is replaced by a watercooler.
- In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry Potter cast the Water-Making Spell into the basin, filling it up. However, when he tried to scoop water into the crystal goblet, it instead phased through the vessel.
