Lord Stoddard Withers (1642–1769) was a magizoologist who bred winged horses. He created a sport that combined elements of polo and Quidditch. It was played on winged horses instead of brooms. The sport never became popular.
Behind the scenes
Lord Withers' title may be indication that he was either a Muggle-born or half-blood wizard. According to Remus Lupin, there are no princes in the wizarding world, and this presumably means that there is also no other nobility.[1]
