Sternius[1] was the incantation of a dark charm that caused the victim to continually sneeze. This spell was used in duelling to distract and weaken the opponent.[2]
Etymology[]
"Sternius" derives from the Latin sternuo, meaning "I sneeze".[3] It shares its etymology with the English word "sternutation", the medical term for a sneeze.
Behind the scenes[]
- Throughout the books, films and game adaptations, this incantation has so far only appeared in the home console versions of the third video game.
- As no subtitles are given ingame outside cutscenes, the spelling of this incantation can only be seen in the game files.[2]
- In the French version of the video game, the incantation is given as Eternumus, a derivation of the verb "éternuer", to sneeze.
