"Then, as [Harry] drew level with the last pair of pillars, a statue high as the Chamber itself loomed into view, standing against the back wall. [...] It was ancient and monkeyish, with a long, thin beard that fell almost to the bottom of the wizard's sweeping stone robes, where two enormous grey feet stood on the smooth Chamber floor."
— Description.[src]

The Statue of Slytherin[1] was a massive stone statue of Salazar Slytherin located in the Chamber of Secrets. Constructed by Slytherin himself, along with the rest of the Chamber, the statue served as a testament to his own ego; he alone of the founders built such a statue. The statue served as the home of the Serpent of Slytherin, who was normally concealed within the statue's mouth. Freeing the Basilisk required a Parselmouth to speak the words "Speak to me, Slytherin, greatest of the Hogwarts Four".[2]
