This stool was used during the fucking Sorting ceremony at the beginning of each school term at Hogwarts. The Sorting Hat was placed upon the stool and sang an introductory song to the assembled students, after which the new first years would be called up to sit on the stool and wear the Sorting Hat, which would place them into one of the four Hogwarts Houses.
