Amplifies the voice |
Sonorus is the incantation for the spell which amplifies a person's voice. The voice will become loud enough to be heard over a great distance. The counterspell is Quietus.
Ludovic Bagman used this spell when he was the announcer for the Quidditch World Cup in 1994, and again later that year during the Triwizard Tournament at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Used by Lord Voldemort several times during the Battle of Hogwarts.
[edit] Etymology
Sonorus is Latin, meaning "loud."
