- "Good morning class. Today's lesson will most assuredly involve learning how to cast the Softening Charm, Spongify."
- — Filius Flitwick adresses his class.[src]
The Softening Charm (Spongify) is a spell that softens a target area or object, making it rubbery and bouncy.[1][2]
The Softening Charm is part of the first-year Charms syllabus at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry,[3] and is later revised in second-year Defence Against the Dark Arts.[2]
Behind the scenes
- In the Harry Potter video games in which it features, to use this spell, a Spongify mat is needed, which is an area that has a swirly symbol on it. Performing the spell on the mat will cause a purple mist to cover the mat, which, when jumped on, will bounce the player high into the air and onto higher ledges or other otherwise inaccessible areas.
