"The "Snake Summons" spell originated in India and is often illicitly used today by wizards who are called by the Muggle moniker, "Snake Charmers"."
—A mention of Snake Charmers[1].

A Snake Charmer is a wizard or witch who travels from place-to-place performing magic with snakes. They illegally use the Snake Summons Spell (Serpensortia) in their work.

The name "Snake Charmer" was given to them by the Muggles that they entertain. As their work is illicit for breaking the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, the Indian Ministry of Magic presumably punish them for their profession.

Some Snake Charmers also work by enchanting a rope to move as though it were a snake. One such charmer visited the Leaky Cauldron during the summer of 1993.
