The Smokescreen Spell[2] (Fumos)[1] was a charm used to create a defensive cloud of smoke from the wand that hindered visibility. This spell was quite useful in duelling, as the smoke hid the caster, preventing an opponent from accurately aiming their spells, as well as allowing the caster to escape unseen.[2]

This spell was covered in the book The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection by Professor Quentin Trimble.[2]

History[]

During the 1988–1989 school year, this spell was taught to fifth-years in Defence Against the Dark Arts, taught by Professor Patricia Rakepick at the time, in order to teach them effective and practical defensive magic, considering how little they had learnt over previous years.[3]
