In 1992, Lucius Malfoy bought the entire Slytherin Quidditch team Nimbus 2001 broomsticks in exchange for making his son Draco their new Seeker. Draco showed them off to the Gryffindor Quidditch team's, and Hermione told him that nobody on the Gryffindor team had to buy their way in. Malfoy responded by calling her a Mudblood, enraging the Gryffindors.[1]
It is unknown whether the students who joined the team in later years, such as C. Warrington, Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle, were given this model of broomstick when they joined the team or if they had to use the broomstick that they already had (if they had one). If the new players were not given Nimbus 2001's when they joined the team and didn't have brooms of their own, they probably had to use one of the old school brooms.
