Severus Snape's wand
History information

1971 or earlier

Voldemort: "The Elder Wand cannot serve me properly, Severus, because I am not its true master. The Elder Wand belongs to the wizard who killed its last owner. You killed Albus Dumbledore. While you live, Severus, the Elder Wand cannot truly be mine."
Snape: "My Lord!"
Voldemort: "It cannot be any other way. I must master the wand, Severus. Master the wand, and I master Potter at last."

The wand of Severus Snape is of unknown 13 1/2in , ebony and dragon heart string. Presumably, Snape purchased this wand in 1971, when he was eleven years old and beginning his time as a First Year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

In 1994, Sirius Black took this wand after Harry, Ron, and Hermione disarmed Snape in the Shrieking Shack. He then used it to reveal Scabbers as Peter Pettigrew.

It is unknown what happened to the wand after Severus's death, although it is possible it was buried along with Snape's body (just as the Elder Wand was buried with Albus Dumbledore.)

Behind the Scenes

  • As J.K. Rowling based Harry's, Ron's, and Hermione's wands on the wand woods corresponding to their date of birth in Celtic tree calendar, it is possible that Severus Snape's wand could have been crafted from Birch. Snape was born January 9, and the period of birth marking Birch on the Celtic tree calendar is December 24 to January 20. [1]
