- Voldemort: "The Elder Wand cannot serve me properly, Severus, because I am not its true master. The Elder Wand belongs to the wizard who killed its last owner. You killed Albus Dumbledore. While you live, Severus, the Elder Wand cannot truly be mine."
- Snape: "My Lord!"
- Voldemort: "It cannot be any other way. I must master the wand, Severus. Master the wand, and I master Potter at last."
- — Lord Voldemort to Severus Snape in 1998[src]
The wand of Severus Snape is of unknown length, wood, and core. Presumably, Snape purchased this wand in 1971, when he was eleven years old and beginning his time as a First Year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
History
In 1998, during the height of the Second Wizarding War, Lord Voldemort came to believe that Severus Snape had also acquired mastery over the Elder Wand, which he took from the grave of Albus Dumbledore. In fact, although Snape had killed Dumbledore, it was Draco Malfoy who had disarmed Dumbledore shortly before his death in 1997. Thus, when Voldemort ordered Nagini to kill Snape, it did not result in mastery of the Elder Wand transferring to him, as Voldemort had indeed believed. Instead, Harry Potter had gained the true allegiance of the Elder Wand when he disarmed Draco during a skirmish in Malfoy Manor.
