Section 28 was a piece of Hogwarts School guidelines regarding the application of punitive measures over students.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- In the United Kingdom, Section 28 was a historical anti-LGBT law enacted in 1988 that prevented the teaching of homosexuality as acceptable or a legitimate form of family, that was repealed in 2000 in Scotland and 2003 in England and Wales.[2]
- In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Section 28 serves as basis for one of Dolores Umbridge's Educational Decree that issues severe punishment to students performing "prohibited incantations". As the numbering for this Educational Decree is not consistent with the numbering established in the novel, said Educational Decree cannot be considered canonical.
