Harry Potter Scar

The scar on Harry Potter's forehead was shaped like a lightning bolt

Minerva McGonagall: "Is that where — ?"
Albus Dumbledore: "Yes. He'll have that scar forever."
Minerva McGonagall: "Couldn't you do something about it, Dumbledore?"
Albus Dumbledore: "Even if I could, I wouldn't. Scars can come in handy. I have one myself above my left knee that is a perfect map of the London Underground."
— Discussing scars[src]

A scar is a permanent mark on the skin sometimes caused by a healed wound.[1]

History[]

Harry Potter had received many scars in his life, the most well-known being the lightning scar that could be seen on his forehead from where Voldemort's Killing Curse struck him as an infant.[2][3] Another of his well known scars was on his left hand and quoted "I must not tell lies", which was from detention with Dolores Umbridge when she forced him to write with the Black Quill.[4][5] He, Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody,[6] Bill Weasley,[7] and Remus Lupin[8][9] are some notable wizards who had been scarred.

Although healing magic could usually heal injuries without scarring, with dittany being one of the more effective,[10] injuries caused by Dark Magic usually left scars that could not be healed,[3][7][11] as Severus Snape expressed possibility that Draco Malfoy may have had some scars from the Sectumsempra curse,[12] and Bill's scars from the werewolf Fenrir Greyback were cursed that they could not be completely healed.[7] Constant usage of the Black Quill scarred Harry's hand with the words he was forced to write out every night of a week.[4][5]

Using the Mending Charm on flesh wounds might cause serious scarring.[13]
