Ruby

Rubies inside the Gryffindor house point hourglass.

A ruby is a red gemstone, often associated with royalty. The charlatan in Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump requested several rubies as pay, claiming they were for the casting of curative charms. The Sword of Gryffindor was known to be adorned with egg shaped rubies. Rubies also filled the Gryffindor House points hourglass at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

In the summer of 1991, when Harry Potter visited Gringotts Wizarding Bank for the first time, he observed a goblin weighing a pile of rubies as big as glowing coals.[1] During the same visit, another goblin, or perhaps the same one, refused to serve him, as he was busy counting several thousand rubies.[2]

In June 1997, during the Death Eater assault on Hogwarts, the Gryffindor House points hourglass was shattered and rubies fell onto the floor below.[3]
