Rabat is an English surname which may derive from Rabatts, a diminutive form of Rabb, a nickname of the male given name Robert.[2] Robert derives from the Germanic male given name Hrodebert, meaning "bright renown", from the Germanic elements hrod, "fame, renown", and berht/beraht, "bright".[2][3] The surname Rabat may also derive from the Germanic male given name Radbodo/Rabbodo, which derives from the Germanic elements, rad, "counsel", and bodo, "message", "tidings".[2]
