Queerditch Marsh was the location where Kwidditch (a primitive form of Quidditch) evolved. In the eleventh century, local resident Gertie Keddle recorded in her diary the antics of wizards and witches playing a broomstick mounted game. Her diary revealed the presence of a leather ball (an early Quaffle), flying rocks (early Bludgers), and the idea of passing the leather ball to each other, then trying to score points by throwing the ball into the trees at the end of the marsh (early forms of goal posts).
