This spell, described as causing "purple firecrackers" to burst from the tip of one's wand, was used by Albus Dumbledore to get the attention of panicking diners in the Great Hall when Professor Quirinus Quirrell revealed that a troll was loose at Hogwarts on 31 October, 1991.
Behind the scenes
- This spell is omitted from the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. In it, Dumbledore raises his voice in a yell of "Silence!" to settle the student body down.
