Public Hospital for Persons of Insane and Disordered Minds, currently called Eastern State Hospital, was a No-Maj hospital built in 1773 in colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, as the first public facility in what would later become the United States constructed solely to care for the mentally ill.[1]

It might not be coincidence that Williamsburg was the first city in the US to have a dedicated psychiatric hospital since, historically, Thornton Harkaway, President of the Magical Congress of the United States of America, who lived there, seemed to be responsible for several breaches of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy: sightings of odd happenings around President Harkaway's residence made the townspeople think their neighbours were going mad. The worst incident happened when Harkaway's pack of Crups savaged several local No-Majs, who afterwards were only able to bark for a period of 48 hours.[2]
