Protego Totalum is the incantation of one of many Protective Enchantments, used to defend a certain small or enclosed area from most other spells for an extended period of time.
History
This charm was performed by Hermione Granger and Harry Potter among other enchantments, in order to prevent attacks from Death Eaters, while the Trio travelled in search of Lord Voldemort's Horcruxes subsequent to the Fall of the Ministry of Magic.
Practitioner
Etymology
The incantation is derived from "protego", meaning "to protect" and Latin "totus", meaning "as a whole", thereby making the whole incantation "to protect as a whole".
Behind the scenes
- This spell is used several times in the Battle of Hogwarts in the eighth video game, by Harry, then Professor McGonagall, then Ron and Bellatrix.
