Protego Maxima is a much more powerful version of the Shield Charm, allowing it to protect a very large area. This spell creates a powerful shield when cast along with Repello Inimigotum and Fianto Duri. It was used in the Battle of Hogwarts where it was cast multiple times to protect the entirety of Hogwarts.
Known uses
- This spell was used by professors Minerva McGonagall, Filius Flitwick and Horace Slughorn along with Order of the Phoenix member Molly Weasley to protect Hogwarts Castle in 1998, It was later destroyed by Lord Voldemort with the Shield Penetration Curse.
Etymology
Latin Protego, "I protect", and Maxima, which means "very great" or "greatest".
Behind the Scenes
- In the film, this spell replaced the book-spell Protego Horribilis. It is another variant of the Shield Charm.
