Portsmouth is a city in Hampshire, in the south of England, situated on Portsea Island and narrowly separated from the British mainland by a creek. It is one of the most densely populated cities in Europe.

Elias Grimstone, the broom-maker who created the Oakshaft 79 in 1879, hailed from Portsmouth.^[1]
