The Pimple Jinx,[2] also known as the Furnunculus Curse[4] (Furnunculus),[1] was a Dark charm that caused a person to break out in boils/pimples when it came in contact with their skin.[1] It could induce acne.[5] The effects could be cleared by the Boil-Cure Potion.[6]
It was for a time a favourite of Harry Potter, who used it twice in his fourth year.[1][3] It had unpleasant side-effects if it happened to strike a person in conjunction with the Jelly-Legs Curse, causing the victim to sprout small tentacles all over their face.[3]
History
In Simon Talmadge's third year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the bully Mabel threatened to use this spell on him, but he was saved by Gwydion Idris.[7]
During the 1990–1991 school year at Hogwarts, Professor Olivia Green taught this spell to her seventh-year Defence Against the Dark Arts students.[5]
Known uses
Caster(s) | Date | Notes |
---|---|---|
Ben Copper | 1990–1991 school year | Used this spell on Merula Snyde in combination with Jacob's sibling's Jelly-Legs Jinx, to give her red tentacled boils on her face.[8] |
Fred and George Weasley | 1992 | They probably used this spell on themselves when they tried to cheer up Ginny Weasley by covering themselves in boils and jumping out at her.[9] |
Harry Potter | 1994–1995 school year | Harry tried to use this spell on Draco Malfoy, but it was deflected and hit Gregory Goyle in the face.[1] |
He later used it on Vincent Crabbe, which, when combined with George Weasley's Jelly-Legs Curse, caused Crabbe to sprout little tentacles on his face.[3] | ||
Unknown | Unknown | An Obliviator named Arnold Peasegood was hit by this spell while attempting to break up a goblin riot in Chipping, Clodbury.[10] |
