Peter Cartwright (born 30 August, 1935) is an actor who has made hundreds of appearances in television, film and on radio and has worked extensively in the theatre, both in the provinces and London's West End. In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix he played a wizard, Elphias Doge, a member of the Order of the Phoenix, who, as part of the Advance Guard, assisted in escorting Harry Potter to 12 Grimmauld Place, the headquarters of the Order. Cartwright didn't reprise his role as Doge for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. His character was instead portrayed by David Ryall.[1]

He was born in Krugersdorp, Gauteng, South Africa educated at St. Andrew's College, Grahamstown, South Africa. He went to Britain in 1959 and studied at RADA. He now lives in London.
