Peskipiksi Pesternomi is a spell that, according to Gilderoy Lockhart, is supposed to round up pixies. It is first used in 1992 in Lockhart's second year Defence Against the Dark Arts class. It had no effect on the pixies that Lockhart had let loose in the classroom, or any other effects at all, presumably because he made it up on the spot, a fact supported by his lack of magical talents. Hermione Granger used a clever Freezing Charm which, unlike Lockhart's spell actually worked. It is unknown if this spell actually works under any circumstances.

"He rolled up his sleeves, brandished his wand, and bellowed, 'Peskipiksi Pesternomi!' It had absolutely no effect; one of the pixies seized his wand. and threw it out of the window, too."
— Gilderoy Lockhart tries to demonstrate this spell.[src]

Peskipiksi Pesternomi is the incantation of a spell meant to capture pixies. It was invented by Gilderoy Lockhart in his first second year Defence Against the Dark Arts class in September of 1992, and its very first use was very unsuccessful.

It had absolutely no effect whatsoever on the pixies Professor Lockhart had released to fly wild throughout the classroom, and indeed had no effect whatsoever.

It is probable that this spell would not be effective in any case, as Professor Lockhart had presumably invented it in that same class, with no forewarning and no indication that it would be successful.

Lockhart's use of this made-up spell was apparently well-known, as a question on the 1996 Theory of Charms O.W.L. asked whether Peskipiksi Pesternomi was a genuine charm or not, and required the answerer to come up with a valid incantation that would have the actual desired effect.[1]

Etymology

This incantation is most likely derived from English "pesky", meaning "annoying"; "pixie"; "pester", meaning "to annoy"; "no" for negative; and "me" as the first person pronoun.
