Peanuts are a type of legume, though they are used in similar ways to nuts for culinary purposes.

Peanuts, covered in a fungus in an attempt to enhance their flavour to the point where a ghost could taste them, where among the snacks served at Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington's five-hundredth Deathday Party. Peeves offered a bowl of these peanuts to Hermione Granger, who refused the offer, and later threw them through Moaning Myrtle while mocking her for being pimply.^[1] Normal peanuts were also among the snacks served at an impromptu party held in the Gryffindor common room to celebrate Harry Potter being named a Hogwarts champion in the Triwizard Tournament.^[2]

Ronald Weasley, upon remembering a time that his brother Fred tricked him into trying an Acid Pop, contemplated if Fred could in turn be tricked into eating Cockroach Clusters if he thought they were peanuts.^[3]
