Peacock is the name given to the male of two related species of peafowl, birds known for their large fan-like tails decorated with multiple eye-like spots.[3]

A peacock was one possible corporeal form of the Patronus Charm.[4]

History[]

By the 1990s, Garrick Ollivander owned a pet peacock.[5]

Three peacock feathers were needed to brew Dragon Tonic, a medicine used to cure sick dragons.[5]

Gilderoy Lockhart owned a peacock feather quill that he normally used for book signings, but made an exception for Hermione Granger's request to check Moste Potent Potions out of the Restricted Section of the Hogwarts library (though no one was sure if he even noticed the title of the book as he was signing).[6]

One of the tents at the 1994 Quidditch World Cup had several live peacocks tethered outside of it.[7]

In 1995, when Gilderoy Lockhart was in St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries (still recovering from the botched Memory Charm he attempted to use on Ron Weasley and Harry Potter three years earlier), he still had his peacock feather quill in his possession, though it had acquired a battered look.[8]

Lucius Malfoy owned at least one peacock with albinism, which lived in his garden at Malfoy Manor. Yaxley and Severus Snape noticed the peacock while they were heading to a meeting at Malfoy manor.[1]

Lucius Malfoy's peacock in LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7

  • In LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7, Lucius Malfoy was able to control a peacock, however, it had a regular colour, not a one with albinism. As in the game the Killing Curse and the inventory (which includes animals and other items like the Invisibility Cloak) take the same place, Lucius was not able to perform a Killing Curse in the game (he was able to do it in LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4). It may be because there were a lot of Death Eaters in the game who could perform the curse. It is also possible that he wasn't given that curse because his loyalty to Voldemort was shrinking, like in the Deathly Hallows series in which he was uncomfortable with having Voldemort staying in his house. The peacock had no special abilities, besides it could climb inside pipes like other pets in the game.
