Partis Temporus is a spell which creates a temporary gap in a protective magical barrier. When a hoard of Inferi attacked Albus Dumbledore and Harry Potter on the island in the Horcrux cave, Dumbledore summoned a ring of fire to drive them off, then used Partis Temporus to create a channel in the encircling flames wide enough to allow himself and Harry Potter to escape in the boat.

During the Battle of Hogwarts the next year, Hermione Granger used this spell to create a gap in the Fiendfyre conjured by Gregory Goyle while flying on broomsticks so that they could escape the Room of Hidden Things.

Etymology

Partis is a plural form of the French verb partir, which means "to separate," "to go away," "to leave," or "to depart." Temporis is Latin for "time."
