Obscuro is the incantation of a charm[3] used to produce a blindfold over the eyes of the victim, therefore obstructing their view of their surroundings[1].

Hermione Granger used this spell in September of 1997 to prevent the portrait of Phineas Nigellus Black from viewing the location of her, Ron Weasley and Harry Potter in the Forest of Dean[1].

Etymology

The incantation is Latin for "dark" or "conceal"[4].
