The Noxious Potion is a potion that releases green clouds of smoke when completed. Its exact usage and effects are unknown, but it is possible that it is used as a poison.
Etymology
In Latin, "Noxious" means unpleasant and harmful, generally referring to odourous fumes, hence the green clouds that emit from it. Noxious is a descendant of another Latin word, nocere, meaning to hurt or injure. "Noxa" means hurtful or injurious. This means that the potion probably injures the drinker.
Behind the scenes
- In the second video game adaptation of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows during the Ousting of Severus Snape and Courtyard Apocalypse, Severus Snape and Fenrir Greyback throws a green bottle with a potion that creates green smoke and hurts the player. This is possibly the Noxious Potion.
