Non-explodable, luminous balloons, (or just luminous balloons for short) were magical, multi-coloured balloons that glowed and were impossible to pop.[3] They could be used as decoration, or as pranks, due to their pop-resistant nature. Fifteen balloons could be carried with the use of a Balloon Holster belt.[1]
History[]
Argus Filch had confiscated several luminous balloons by the 1986–1987 school year, keeping them in his office.[2]
Harry Potter got a package of non-explodable luminous balloons in his Wizard Crackers on 25 December 1991.[3]
In 1992, Luminous balloons were sold at Gambol and Japes Wizarding Joke Shop at 25 Knuts each.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- In the Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery Year 3 achievement "HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, HOGWARTS", the player has the option to pick either luminous balloons or fireworks for the party. Picking the balloons results in them appearing as decorations in the Great Hall.
- In both the console versions of the video game adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and the video game adaptation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (except PS1), luminous balloons can be used to distract prefects, allowing Harry to escape their gaze and move past them.
