A Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a department of a hospital specializing in the care of sick and premature newborn babies.^[1] In 1995, twins Jack and Tom Monk were taken to a NICU shortly after their premature delivery, where they were kept in incubators for twelve weeks, receiving fluids through intravenous lines and breathing with help from mechanical ventilators.^[2]
