Mr. Granger is a Muggle dentist and the father of Hermione Granger, a Gryffindor student in the same year as Harry Potter at Hogwarts. He is the grandfather of Rose and Hugo Weasley. Harry first met him in the summer of 1992 when he and the Weasleys went with Hermione to Diagon Alley to buy school supplies. There, Arthur Weasley insisted upon taking Mr. and Mrs. Granger out for a drink.
In 1997, Hermione modified her father's memory so that he believed he was Wendell Winkins, a man without a daughter who wanted to live in Australia. This was to protected her parents from Death Eaters during the worst of the Second Wizarding War. Hermione later found him and her mother and restored their memories.
