"I've got Morgana again and I've got about six of her."
Ron Weasley discussing Morgan le Fay's Chocolate Frog Card[src]

Morgan le Fay, more commonly known as Morgana, was a powerful Dark witch who lived during the Middle Ages.[1]

Biography

Lifetime

Morgan le Fay was born and lived during the Middle Ages.[1] She was known to have had a half-brother, Arthur,[1] with whom she shared a mother: Lady Igraine. Her father was believed to be Igraine's first husband, the Duke of Cornwall.

During her lifetime, Morgan le Fay played a role in numerous events, and was a powerful witch, being a proficient healer as well as an Animagus (taking the form of a bird).[1] She also ruled as Queen of the Island of Avalon.[1]

However, she was also a practitioner of Dark Arts, and was an enemy of the great wizard Merlin.[1]

Legacy

Morgan le Fay was featured on a Chocolate Frog Card centuries after her death.[2] Ron Weasley claimed he owned "about six" of this card in 1991.[2]

Magical abilities and skills

  • Dark Arts: Morgana's famous Wizard Card described her as a powerful Dark witch.
  • Animagus: Morgana was revealed to have mastered the art of Self-Transfiguration, being able to turn herself into a bird at will. Being a bird, she has the ability of flying without the need of a broomstick or other rides.
  • Healing magic: Morgana was noted to be particularly gifted in the art of healing magic.

Morgan le Fay on a Famous Wizard Card

  • Morgan le Fay is based on the legendary figure of the same name, the daughter of King Arthur's mother the Lady Igraine and her first husband Gorlois, Duke of Cornwall (making her Arthur's half-sister in legend too).
  • In the film Merlin, with Sam Neill as the title character, Morgan le Fay was portrayed by Helena Bonham Carter, who later went on to play Dark witch Bellatrix Lestrange.
  • Before Emma Watson got the part of Hermione Granger she had acted only in school plays; one was "Arthur's Early Years", in which she played the role of Morgan le Fay.
