The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries was a Muggle United Kingdom government department responsible for both food production and food safety. On 31 July, 1993, the Ministry was to make an announcement via television, though whatever it was they were to announce went unheard at 4 Privet Drive, as Vernon Dursley snarled over the reporter's sentence to grumble about his not reporting where it was that the escaped criminal had escaped from.^[1]

• In the real world, this department was known by this name from 1919-1955 before being renamed the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. In 2002, it was dissolved entirely and its responsibilities transferred to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.^[2]
