Michael Goldenberg (born 18 January 1965) is an American screenwriter who wrote the script for the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Michael Goldenberg was born in 1965 and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University.[citation needed]

Before Harry Potter[]

Goldenberg was the screenwriter and director of Bed of Roses in 1996. He was the co-screenwriter for the film adaptation of Contact and co-adapted the 2003 live-action version of Peter Pan with director P.J. Hogan. He is also the co-screenwriter for Spike Jonze's upcoming Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures production of Where the Wild Things Are.[citation needed]

Harry Potter films[]

He is co-screenwriter of the fifth Harry Potter film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007). Goldenberg had previously written a few script pages for the first Harry Potter film Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) and while the producers liked them, they ultimately picked Steve Kloves to do the screenplay.[citation needed]

Goldenberg was selected to write the screenplay for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in November 2004 when Steve Kloves, who had adapted the previous four Harry Potter books, turned down the opportunity to do the fifth film.[1]

Kloves, however, returned to the series from the sixth film onwards, and Goldenberg reportedly has a deal to write and direct a futuristic drama for Warner Bros. following Order of the Phoenix.[2]
