The McGonagalls lived in a manse on the outskirts of Caithness, Scotland, in the early twentieth century, after Robert McGonagall and Isobel Ross eloped from their parents who frowned upon the couple.
As Minerva later lived in a cottage with her husband Elphinstone Urquart - and then at Hogwarts after his death in 1983 - it can be assumed that Robert Jr. inherited the manse after the death of Robert McGonagall Sr. as Minerva would have moved back there - instead of Hogwarts - if she owned it as it, also being in Scotland, would be close to the school.
