The McGonagalls lived in a manse on the outskirts of Caithness, Scotland, in the early twentieth century, after Robert McGonagall and Isobel Ross eloped from their parents who frowned upon the couple.^[1]

This manse was where Minerva McGonagall grew up in, along with her younger brothers Malcolm and Robert Jr..^[1]

As Minerva later lived in a cottage with her husband Elphinstone Urquart - and then at Hogwarts after his death in 1983 - it can be assumed that Robert Jr. inherited the manse after the death of Robert McGonagall Sr. as Minerva would have moved back there - instead of Hogwarts - if she owned it as it, also being in Scotland, would be close to the school.
