Matthew Echunga was a wizard who played as a Chaser on the Australian National Quidditch team during the four-hundred and twenty-second Quidditch World Cup, in 1994.

The name "Matthew" is the English form of Ματθαιος (Matthaios), which was a Greek form of the Hebrew name מַתִּתְיָהוּ (Mattityahu) meaning "gift of Yahweh".
Echunga is a town in South Australia; the name is of Aboriginal origin. It means either 'a short distance' or 'close by'.
