Matey was a pet goat owned by Aberforth Dumbledore. On 5 October, 1995, when Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger walked through the front door of Aberforth's pub in Hogsmeade, the Hog's Head, where they had scheduled the first meeting of what was to become Dumbledore's Army, Matey darted out from behind the bar counter suddenly. Aberforth followed Matey into another room, calling out, "Matey, come back here."
