The Maori were the indigenous people of the archipelago of New Zealand in the southern Pacific Ocean.[1]

In the 17th century, a team of European herbologists reportedly visited New Zealand on a scientific expedition, and witnessed playing Quidditch by the members of the indigenous Maori population.[2] This lead to depictions of white wizards playing Quidditch in Maori art of this period, which the New Zealand Ministry of Magic expended considerable resources to keep Muggles from discovering in later centuries, and displayed at its headquarters in Wellington.[2]
