The Major Investigation Department was a large office that served as the base of operation for the Investigative Team, a specially-assigned task force charged with investigating crimes related to the violation of the International Confederation of Wizards' Statute of Secrecy and putting the security risk in question to rest by whatever means necessary.

Description

Found deep within the headquarters of the Magical Congress of the United States of America, the office of the Major Investigation Department was said to stand in stark contrast of the cramped, airless, windowless basement room in which the Wand Permit Office could be found. Large and very official looking, its walls were made of Gothic paneling and ornate golden columns, and lined with wooden cabinets whose drawers were filled with past investigation files and subject to stringent magical security measures.[1]

Beside detailed maps of both the city of New York and the United States of America featuring the various crime hotspots and areas of conjuration that were dressed onto a large meeting table surrounded by wooden chairs around which the Investigative Team would gather for briefings and discuss ongoing investigations, alongside paperweights, ledgers and books of magical law such as one regarding Rappaport's Law, the table were also often overflowing with reams of paperwork, such as crime reports, finger print sheets and spell recordings of the witches and wizards on MACUSA's list of Most Wanted. In addition to a large meeting table, the office held various tools and equipment designed to track magical activity, as well as a bulletin board featuring a number of wanted posters the Investigative Team searched for.
