Magical Theory is a subject taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, taken at least in the first year. It presumably covers magic from a purely theoretical standpoint. It is never said what teacher teaches it and it has presumably been made up for the films as it is never mentioned in the books.
