Although the origins of the Disarming Charm were obscure, some wizarding historians suggested that the charm originated in Madagascar, claiming that it was in widespread use there in the 11th century. The Malagasy National Quidditch team faced off against the Syrian National Quidditch team in the final of the 1974 Quidditch World Cup. When Royston Idlewind, the International Director of the International Confederation of Wizards Quidditch Committee, appeared in the private box reserved for dignitaries and officials, the audience protested his highly unpopular wand ban by making their Dissimulators produce loud raspberry noises, then transforming them back into wands from which they had been transfigured. Idlewind resigned on the spot, and thus although Madagascar ultimately lost, their fans still celebrated that night.
