- "Conjures a focused light beam from the end of the wand."
- — Description[src]
Lumos Duo was a variation of the Wand-Lighting Charm. It created a focused beam of light from the end of the wand.[1]
Effect[]
Casting this charm caused an extremely bright, intense beam of light to emit from the tip of the wand, which could be used for a variety of purposes.[1]
For instance, the spell's light forced ghouls to retreat and hinkypunks to solidify, and therefore could be used as a defensive measure. The light could also be used to attract Chizpurfles, which were attracted to magic.[1]
History[]
1993–1994 school year[]
During the 1993–1994 school year, a spellbook detailing the use of this spell could be found in a storeroom near the Muggle Studies Classroom in Hogwarts Castle for unknown reasons.[1]
During that year, third-year Gryffindor student Ronald Weasley found Professor Burbage's spellbook and took it. He then proceeded to read the book and learn this Lumos Duo spell, and used it against several hinkypunks. He also used it to free Neville Longbottom from the ghoul in the classroom, who was harassing him.[1]
Etymology[]
The incantation derives from Latin "lumen", which means "light", and "duo", which means "two"; therefore, the incantation comes together to mean "two light" or "light two".
Behind the scenes[]
- This charm does not appear in any of the books or films, but only in the console version of the video game adaptation of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, where only Ron is able to use it.
