A Loose Hand (also known as a Severed Hand or Disembodied Hand) is a human hand that is lacking in any other part of a human's anatomy, that has been enchanted to act like an animal, having the ability the stand, walk, and attack any passerby it despises. It is particularly vulnerable to the Fire-Making Spell. This was Dean Thomas's greatest fear at least from the 1993–1994 school year, but likely developed the fear beforehand.
History
During the 1992-1993 school year, enchanted Loose Hands were scattered all over Hogwarts castle and the grounds, and would attack students, such as Harry Potter.
Later, in 1993, a boggart took this form in Defence Against the Dark Arts class, when Dean Thomas faced it. When he used Riddikulus, the hand got caught in a mouse trap.
