A liver is an organ in most organisms that produces chemicals necessary for digestion. Livers of animals are commonly eaten by humans.[2]

History[]

Liver BertieBotts

Dragon liver was sold as a potion ingredient in Diagon Alley.[3] Along with other materials from a dragon, it is known to have magical properties.[4]

The Famous French Method for the Bite of a Mad Dog was a medieval potion that somehow included the dried and powdered liver of a dog as an ingredient.[5]

It is also a known flavour of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans.[6]

Harry Potter saw an individual, whom he swore was a Hag, order raw liver in the Leaky Cauldron in 1993.[1]

In 1994, Rubeus Hagrid had his fourth year Care of Magical Creatures students at Hogwarts feed frog livers to the newly hatched Blast-Ended Skrewts.[7] He later moved on to having the students prepare dragon livers for them.[8]

According to a portrait of a healer in St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, tying a toad liver to one's throat was part of the cure for Spattergroit.[9]
