" [...] and as he took it, a shower of sparks flew from its tip, sparkling over the corpse of its last owner, ready to serve a new master at last."
— Voldemort steals the wand, seconds before casting this spell[src]

This spell (incantation unknown) was used by Lord Voldemort in May of 1998 to test the strength of the Elder Wand, which he'd recently stolen from Albus Dumbledore.

It was used to shoot a thick bolt of blinding white lightning into the sky, along with a slight crackling noise as high amounts of electricity tend to produce.

Behind the scenes

  • This is reminiscient of the white disarming spell Dumbledore used on Snape in the book adaptation, which many fans believe to be the Disarming Charm.
  • As most of the spells and incantations are derived from the latin language, it can be assumed that the incantation for this spell is the same. The Latin word for "Bolt of Lightning" is Fulguri and the Latin word for "Lightning Strike" is Fulmen. Either of these could be a possible incantation for this spell.
  • It is possible that this is also the spell that Lord Voldemort used to destroy the Shield surrounding the castle during the Battle of Hogwarts as the spell has a similar appearance and colour to Lightning Spell.
