*The effect of this spell may be a reference to the Hanged Man, a Tarot card that depicts a saint-like figure being hung upside down from his ankle.
*In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and the video game, Levicorpus is a verbal spell that Harry teaches to Dumbledore's Army. In the film, Cho Chang is seen using it on Nigel Wolpert, and later, Luna Lovegood uses it on a Death Eater in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. However, this spell was not learned by Harry Potter until Half Blood Prince because it was contained in the Half Blood Prince's potions book.

  +
*In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (film), this is a verbal spell taught to Dumbledore's Army; it is used to lift people in this medium. Luna Lovegood uses it on a Death Eater in the Ministry of Magic; however this time it blows away the person.
*Also, in the film the spell seems to levitate people rather than hanging them by the ankle. In the video game the spell remains like it is in the books, except in the case of Death Eaters.

  +
*It is unclear when this jinx was invented, as James Potter knew it in his fifth year, whereas it was noted in Snape's NEWT-level textbook.
*Levicorpus was used verbally by Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. This is unusual not only because the spell is best used non-verbally, but also because Hermione is noted to be highly skilled with nonverbal magic. A possible reason for this is because Hermione didn't want Harry to be unprepared for being hoisted into the air by his ankle.

  +
*This brings into question the argument of whether Snape invented it or not. It is possible he simply learned it in his fifth year and then recorded it in his textbook for future use, and did not invent it at all.
*Although invisible in other mediums, in the video game adaptation of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince the spell manifests as a large bird made out of orange light that collides with the victim and disappears in a flash of light, following which they are hoisted into the air as usual.

  +
*In Harry Potter for Kinect Voldemort can use this spell against Dumbledore in the final Duel in the Ministry Atrium as they engage in a normal duel.
*When Luna Lovegood uses this spell in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, the Death Eater is blasted away rather than being levitated.

*It is unclear when the jinx was invented, since its "vogue" appears to have extended at least as early as the end of his fifth year with James Potter using it, but Snape notes it in his N.E.W.T.-level Potions textbook.

"Oh, that one had a great vogue during my time at Hogwarts. There were a few months in my fifth year when you couldn't move for being hoisted into the air by your ankle."
Remus Lupin[src]

Levicorpus is the incantation of a jinx. The spell, which was intended to be cast nonverbally but which can be spoken aloud,[4] causes the victim to be hoisted into the air by their ankle; the counter-jinx for this spell is Liberacorpus.

History

This jinx was apparently invented by Professor Severus Snape under the pseudonym "The Half-Blood Prince" during his time as a student at Hogwart School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There was a couple of months in 1976 were the spell became quite popular and students couldn't move from being hoisted up in the air by their ankle.

In 1996 Harry Potter found the Half-Blood Prince's copy of Advanced Potion-Making that contained the spell, he used it twice during the 1996-1997 school year. in 1998 this spell would be used again but, by Hermione Granger during the Trio's hunt for Horcrux's

Known uses
